Landscape architecture is a multipurpose branch of the architecture field, aiming to create sustainable and ecological green spaces, enhancing urban biodiversity.
The intervention’s scope ranges from small private gardens to urban parks, in constant cooperation with the remaining architectural and engineering fields.
Despite focusing primarily on vegetation (together with the Edaphoclimatic characteristics of each site), given its versatility and multiple working scales, landscape architecture projects often include pavements, terrain modeling, drainage, urban furniture and lighting services.
The main goals of the field can be described as such:
- Conception of landscapes that represent the character of the place, suited with its surroundings;
- Site design providing opportunities for stay, leisure and recreation;
- Improvement of air quality and quality of life;
- Accommodate and balance pedestrian routes and road transport;
- Conception of urban green corridors.
